Developing social innovation education programmes
for global audiences @FutureLearn
Social Innovation in South Korea
#1 Prof. Hyunsang Shin
In 2018, we created a six-week course aimed at fostering global changemakers and made it available for free through the UK's online education platform FutureLearn in 2019.
The course content covered topics such as social entrepreneurship, social innovation, social impact, collective impact, and the social innovation movement in Korea, and by 2024, 1,695 people from around the world had taken the course.
#2 Prof. Aron Kim
This course introduces Korea's international development cooperation efforts to help developing countries achieve sustainable development, and shares lessons and implications from these experiences from the perspective of social innovation. It was developed and produced as a sequel to the course Social Innovation in South Korea #1, taught by Professor Hyunsang Shin in 2019, and will be available for free from November through the UK's online education platform FutureLearn.
The course content will cover Korea's development experience, the emergence of social innovation in the shadow of economic growth, and Korea's development cooperation efforts for sustainable development.

Development of social innovation/SDG/ESG courses
for international students @ERICA Campus (Prof. Aaron Kim/Hyunsang Shin)
It will be offered as an interdisciplinary course that all students will be required to take. The course is designed to equip students with the core competencies that will be required in the future. It will be piloted in the autumn term of 2024 and will be available to all new students in spring 2025. We are redesigning our higher education curriculum to ensure that students learn how to challenge and solve societal problems, including continuing to develop more curricular and cross-disciplinary programmes.
